WIANBU - Comfort Woman
sehsuechte.08 – 37th International Student Film Festival
Honorary Mention by the Narrative Film Jury, speech held by Rolf Losansky, 04/27/2008
(Translated by Saskia Asmus)
The movie Wianbu – Comfort Woman deals with an important and highly political topic and particularly does receive an honorary mention by the feature film jury. The jury would like to draw attention to the issue that has been depicted in this film: the 200.000 Korean women, who were victims of the military government during World War II. The so-called Comfort Women were hauled off into Japanese military camps and were abused and raped. This film does recollect this sad and black chapter of Japanese and Korean history, the horror of war, into public consciousness. Furthermore the film stands out due to an excellent camera work also at the formal level.
